‘I make these paintings and monochromes in order to study nature. Most of the flowers depicted are from my own garden, or those of friend’s gardens or the hunting grounds of my travels. Notwithstanding the rarity of flowers in my oil paintings, paper gives me the freedom to explore petal beauty in an unpressured environment. Whilst constantly aware that I shall never recreate the antique velvet and colour vibrancy of true petals, I can play and dream.’
